Barline doesn't collect your data. Your workouts stay on your iPhone and, if you turn on iCloud Sync, in your own private iCloud.
Barline is a workout log made by Farhan Ali Osmani, an independent developer. This page explains what the app keeps, where it keeps it, and who can see it.
What Barline doesn't do
- No account or sign-up.
- No advertising, analytics, or tracking, and no third-party software that does them.
- No servers of our own. Barline never sends your workouts to the developer or to anyone else.
Where your data lives
On your iPhone
Your workouts, routines, custom exercises, and settings are stored on your iPhone. Barline also keeps automatic backups there, about a month of them, so you can restore an earlier copy in Settings → Your Data.
In your iCloud, if iCloud Sync is on
iCloud Sync keeps your devices up to date through your private iCloud database. That database belongs to your Apple Account: only you can read it, and the developer can't see what's in it. You can turn iCloud Sync off in Barline's Settings at any time.
Apple Health, if you turn it on
When Save Workouts to Health is on, Barline saves each finished workout to Apple Health with its estimated calories, and reads your body weight from Health to estimate calories and to show your body-weight chart. Health data stays on your iPhone: Barline never copies it to iCloud or sends it anywhere, and never uses it for advertising. You can change Health access in the Health app at any time.
Purchases
Barline Pro is bought through Apple. Apple handles the payment; Barline only learns whether Pro is unlocked, and never sees your payment details.
Problem reports
Settings → Report a Problem prepares a short text report that you can read in full before choosing whether and how to send it, for example by email. It contains what you write about the problem, the app and iOS versions, your iPhone model, a few settings (such as whether iCloud Sync and Health are on), counts of your workouts and routines, and recent error messages. It never contains your workouts, notes, or Health data. Nothing is sent unless you send it, and if you email it, the developer receives your email address only to reply to you.
Separately, if you've chosen in your iPhone's settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may provide the developer with crash reports and statistics under Apple's own privacy policy.
Exports and backups you share
If you export your workouts (CSV) or a backup file, the file goes only where you send it.
Deleting your data
- Settings → Your Data → Delete All Data removes your workouts, routines, and settings from your iPhone and, with iCloud Sync, from iCloud and your other devices. It also removes the workouts Barline saved to Apple Health.
- Deleting the app removes everything stored on that iPhone. Data in iCloud can also be deleted in your iPhone's Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.
Children
Barline doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
